History:
Dima Hasao District, formerly known as the North Cachar Hills District, is an administrative district in Assam, India. As of 2011, it is the least populated area in Assam. Today's Dima Hasao district, formerly the North Kacha Hills district, was incorporated into the old Kacha district, and Asar was just a police outpost. In 1880, this part was organized into a subdivision headquartered in Gunjung under the Cachar district. This headquarters moved to Haflong in 1895.
