Hoshangabad District

History:

Hoshangabad, officially Narmadapuram, is a city and municipality located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It serves as the capital of the Hoshangabad region and the Narmadapuram district. Hoshangabad was founded by Sultan Hoshang Shah of Malwa in 1406, and served as a defense against the Gond invaders. It was built by the municipality in 1867. The city is a commercial center for agriculture and specializes in paper milling and the construction of roofing tiles, brass, and bamboo poles.

Famous:

It is a popular tourist destination and sanctuary located about 20 km from Harda. The Narmada River flows and contains the nabhi kund (in the middle of the Narmada River). There are also many temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, from which the famous Pandavas temple was also built.
