Rewa District

History:

Rewa Province is the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The city of Rewa is the regional capital. Rewa also known as the 'Land of the White Leopards' as the first White Tiger was discovered here by the Maharaja of the province. Rewa princely state was founded about 1400 by Baghel Rajputs (warrior caste). The city was chosen as the capital of the country in 1597 and served as the capital of the British Baghelkhand Agency (1871-1931) and the province of Vindhya Pradesh (1948-56). Rewa entered into a treaty with the British in 1812.
