History:
Morena is the capital of the Morena region, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Managed by a municipal organization. It is also the administrative headquarters of the Chambal section. The village was named after the small town of Muraina, five miles [8 km] away. away from the current city. The nearby Shikarpur railway station and sarai were later renamed after the old town. Originally it was called Pench-Morena as it has a large number of cotton processing machines.
Famous:
It is located 46 kilometers from Gwalior, in Morena where one finds the largest number of peacocks in India. Morena is named after a bird called 'mor' in Hindi. The most impressive place is Sabalgarh Fort, a formidable structure perched on a rocky outcrop.
