Khargone District

History:

The region of Khargone, formerly known as West Nimar, is the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The district is located in the Nimar region, and is part of the Indore Division. The region of Khargone was part of the Nerbudda (Narmada) Division of the Central Provinces and Berar, which became the province of Madhya Bharat (later Madhya Pradesh) after independence from India in 1947. On November 1, 1956, the district became part of the newly formed district of Madhya Pradesh. On May 25, 1998, the West Nimar region was divided into two regions: Chargone and Barwani.
