History:
The Barabanki district is one of the five districts of the Faizabad Division in the Central Awad region of Uttar Pradesh, India. The Barabanki district, known as Dariyabad, is headquartered in the city of Dariyabad and was founded by an officer of the Mohammed Shah Shariki Army under the name Dariab Khan. It remained the district headquarters until 1858. The district headquarters was moved to Nawabgangji in 1859 and is now known as Barabanki. This happened during the expansion of the district by the British. Firstly to avoid confusion with other places, secondly because the private bureau is technically outside Nawabgangji and the income is low, they are called Barabanki.
