About Lakhimpur District
Lakhimpur is an administrative district in Assam, India. The district headquarters is located in North Rakinpur. The district was named the Lakinpur district after a proclamation by the then governor-general in July 1839. On October 2, 1971, the district was reorganized into two subdivisions: Dhemaji and North lakhimpur. It was then reorganized in 1989 into two subdivisions. Dhakuakhana and North Lakhimpur leave Dhemaji as a separate district. The area was formerly known as "Koliapani" because there was virtually no road connection to the area until 1950.
Famous for the Dafa National Park and Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, which merged in 1987.
The total area is 2277 km2.
The district has 3 subdivisions and a total of 9 blocks.
There are about 227 villages in the Rakinpur district.
According to the 2011 census, there is only one city in the area.
